I get a lot of questions about David Letterman tickets.

Here are a few interesting things you should know about his show:

  • He films 5 shows per week in New York City.  He takes Fridays off, so usually the show tapes once Monday through Wednesday and twice on Friday.
  • Like all the late night talk shows - it is taped in the late afternoon and shown later that evening or the next day (ever wonder why it is daytime when they go out on the street?)
  • All of the shows take about a hour to an hour and half to record, and the studios are often cold - so bring an extra layer.
  • Tickets for David Letterman are in high demand, so don’t be surprised if you are unable to attend.
  • You cannot buy tickets for David Letterman.  They are 100% free from CBS, and anyone selling them is a fraud as the tickets are non-transferable.  (They are in your specific name and you have to bring ID.)
  • You must be 18 or older to attend.
  • You can only request 2 tickets (unless you are a very large group - 10 to 20.)
  • There are 4 ways to get tickets:  Online Form, In Person Request, Group Tickets, and Stand By.  A link to them all can be found below.
  • Last thing - David Letterman wants his fans to attend, so he makes them answer a trivia question before qualifying for tickets.  Be ready - an incorrect answer disqualifies you from tickets!

Because the information changes frequently, I thought it would be best to direct you to the website for more info:

One last tip:  I have seen David Letterman several times.  The first time they called to confirm and ask the trivia question, I almost had a heart attack!  They used to ask 3 questions and you had to get one correct.  Now it is much tougher - one question - one answer!  If you know someone who is a regular fan of Letterman (watches it several times per week) put their phone number on your form.  Still make all the other information correct and give your friend a heads up.  Anyone who watches the show regularly would easily be able to answer the questions.  For example, where is Dave’s mom from?

If you said Indiana you would have 2 tickets.  Any other answer gets you a polite decline.

Good luck and enjoy!

Can you help me buy Oprah Winfrey Tickets?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

All Oprah has to do is mention the name of your product, and it sells out immediately.  It’s not at all surprising that tickets for her show are among the most difficult to acquire.

The good news is that like most TV shows, tickets for the Oprah Winfrey show are free.  You cannot buy them on the secondary market (like eBay or Stubhub) because they have your name on each ticket, and require photo ID for entrance.  Basically, they are non-transferable.

There are services that charge outrageous fees to basically dial the phone for you.  There is one that guarantees you will get tickets.  In exchange for them dialing the phone and getting through, they charge about $1000 for up to 4 tickets.

The only legitimate way to get tickets for Oprah is directly through her studio.  Oprah tapes August through November and January through June.  Currently no reservations are available for 2007.

Fans interested in attending a show must check her website everyday.  Once you get to the website, there will be information on if they are currently booking reservations.  If they are, there will be a phone number to call.  There is never advance notice as to when shows will be made available, although it is usually 30 - 60 days in advance.

Here is the link you need to check for tickets: http://www.oprah.com/tows/program/tows_prog_getticks.jhtml

A few other small details:

  • You must be 18 and have valid ID to attend a show.
  • You must wear business casual or nicer clothing.  No white or beige is allowed.  And sweaters are recommended.
  • You can request up to 4 tickets for a show.
  • You can only attend 1 show per season.
  • Taping are twice per day, on weekdays only.
  • No food is served or allowed, so eat plenty before you arrive.
  • Shows take 3-4 hours to tape.
  • You cannot request a specific show topic, so if you’re stalking Dr. Phil, this is not the place to do it!

There are no walk-ins or standbys, but the website sometimes has a link available for last minute tickets that are from cancellations.

Good luck!

How do I get free Saturday Night Live Tickets?

Friday, October 19th, 2007

This is one of the most common questions I receive from fans!

First, the Good News:  all Saturday Night Live Tickets are free. The Bad News:  Saturday Night Live tickets are one of the three toughest tickets to get in

America…along with Oprah Tickets and Super Bowl Tickets.Tickets for SNL are distributed via lottery.  In past years, you need to mail in a post card with all your information.  Now you just need to email NBC to register for the lottery. The email address is:  snltickets@nbcuni.com

The email should include all of your contact information:  Name, Address, Phone Numbers, and E-Mail Address.  You cannot specify a date you would like to attend.  One entry per household.   You must be 16 or older to receive tickets. The email must be received during the month of August for that season - so August 2007 for the 2007 - 2008 season.  Emails that arrive before or after that month are discarded.  The process has been the same for years.  If selected you will receive 2 tickets.  If you would like 1 or 3 or 10, you are out of luck.  You will also be given a date and time randomly, so you cannot specify when you will be visiting NYC.  Lastly, you may be selected to receive tickets for the dress rehearsal, instead of the real show.  Still an incredibly tough ticket, but not quite the same. There is no real way to increase your odds, other than to send the email with different email addresses, mailing addresses, variations of your name. There is no secondary market for tickets because they are assigned to you and cannot be transferred.  Your only other option is a stand by ticket,  You must get in line prior to 7am the day of the taping on the 49th Street side of 30 Rockefeller Plaza.  If given a standby ticket (1 per person) you can then return to stand in line for either the dress rehearsal or live show.   Make sure you are in line for standby tickets as early as possible.  And once you have a standby ticket get to the show as early as possible also - as standby tickets are not guaranteed.

Do standby fans get into the show?  More than you may think.  It s a tough ticket, but remember people all over the world request tickets in hopes they can get tickets during a trip to NYC.  That creates a ton of no shows - and opportunities for standby fans!

Good luck and please continue to send me your questions.  Feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed or weekly newsletter.  Both will provide links to my articles and information about tickets going on sale in the near future.  Thanks!
